Simunye hall – Erna og Knut Engs Children’s Foundation

Completed

Erna and Knut Eng Children’s Fund has given us a very generous donation and thus contributed to building our wonderful hall in Simunye. It is in daily use as a kindergarten for the youngest, and as a library for the older children after school.

The multi-purpose hall is used daily by almost 200 children associated Zulufadder, as well as their families and their community. The hall has electricity and water (rainwater collection), which is also sponsored by the foundation.

Around 500 children and adults use the hall for various purposes:

  • Kindergarten during school hours
  • Library with several thousand books in place, which are partly sponsored by the book “Word by Word”
  • Provision of food rations that takes place once a month
  • Homework assistance
  • Dance and Choir practices
  • Youth house
  • A separate building, built by Randi Nilsen, serves as clinic and office.
  • There is no similar community hall in the area.

Simunye Day Care Centers makes a big difference for many people of Simunye, and Zulufadder is extremely proud to have contributed to this great hall with Erna and Knut Eng’s Children Foundation!

A special thanks to the following:

  • Erna and Knut Eng Children’s Fund
  • Architect Ellen Enger who designed the hall free of charge.
  • Builder and Rotarian Fergus Upfold who did not personally charge for the construction.
  • Læringsverkstedet for making it possible to run a daily kindergarten for about 45 children.
