At Gratton we want our students to experience more than classrooms and homework. School is also song, sports and culture – things that build confidence, community and joy. Many of our children would never have had the chance to play an instrument, sing in a choir or step onto a proper sports field. That is why we have made culture and sports an important part of everyday life.
Musical instruments and choir
Thanks to donations from Norway we have been able to buy keyboards, drum sets, a piano and guitars – some new, some second-hand, each with its own story. With sound systems and microphones we have lifted the school choir, which today is one of Gratton’s prides. The choir has won competitions, but most importantly – they fill the hall with song and give the children a voice and a sense of belonging.

Dance and traditional culture
Zulu dance is part of the children’s heritage, and at Gratton they get to keep the traditions alive. With African drums, skirts and animal skins as equipment, we have given the students the chance to perform both at school and in the local community. The dance brings pride, identity, and not least a big dose of energy and joy.
Sports
Sports at Gratton are about having fun, but also about learning teamwork and discipline. We offer football, rugby, cricket, volleyball, netball and athletics. On the field, our children find mastery, friendship and true joy in sports.
A heartfelt thank you
All of this would have been impossible without support from donors in Norway. Musical instruments, sports equipment and cultural projects have given the children at Gratton experiences that will last a lifetime.
